As the summer season approaches, the number of travelers from Europe to Turkey is traditionally increasing, especially among those traveling by car and bus. In 2026, Turkish customs authorities have strengthened controls at border crossings by introducing new digital systems for inspecting luggage and vehicles.
Experts note that inspections have become significantly more thorough. Travelers are therefore advised to review current import regulations in advance to avoid delays or fines.
KEY RESTRICTIONS
Duty-free allowance is up to €430 per adult and €150 for children under 15. If the value exceeds €430 but is below €1500, a flat duty applies: 30% for goods purchased in EU countries and 60% for goods from other countries. Items over €1500 may be classified as commercial.
Restrictions also apply to tobacco and alcohol: up to 600 cigarettes are allowed. Alcohol limits are 1 liter of spirits above 22% or 2 liters below 22%. E-cigarettes are limited to 10 disposable units or one personal device.
ELECTRONICS AND CASH
Passengers may bring personal electronics such as laptops, tablets, and TVs up to 55 inches. Mobile phones can be imported once every three years and must be carried personally.
Cash amounts exceeding €10,000 must be declared. Personal gold jewelry up to $15,000 is generally allowed without declaration.
PROHIBITED ITEMS
Import of meat and dairy products (including sausages, cured meats, and cheese) is prohibited. Commercial quantities of goods may be confiscated.
