In Antalya’s Kemer district, the Geographical Indication Commission convened under the chairmanship of District Governor Ahmet Solmaz to discuss the current status of locally registered products and evaluate potential new products for geographical indication registration. The meeting emphasized the role of local products in supporting sustainable tourism.
Governor Solmaz highlighted Kemer’s significance in the tourism sector, noting that the district welcomes visitors from all around the world. He stressed the importance of preserving local values as a key factor in ensuring sustainable tourism.
“Kemer is a major tourism destination, but to make this value sustainable, we must protect our local culture and products,” said Solmaz. “Geographical indication efforts are crucial in this regard. The more products we register, the greater the contribution to our district’s economic and cultural development.”
During the meeting, officials reviewed the status of already registered products and discussed the roadmap for new applications. Local agricultural products, traditional foods, and handicrafts were among the items considered to have potential for registration.
It was underlined that geographical indication not only provides a quality guarantee but also brings economic benefits to local producers. The commission agreed to accelerate the registration process and announced that efforts will continue in the coming months without interruption.
