It has been almost two years since the global economy suffered an unprecedented shock in the first months of 2020 with the COVID-19 pandemic. It is emphasized that 2022 will be the year of adaptation to the new normal after the pandemic. It is expected that the 2022 pandemic may turn into an endemic with new treatments and vaccination. While the rumors that the flight bans will be lifted and the PCR tests carried out before the plane travels continue, Antalya is preparing to break the tourism record in 2022.
Antalya is waiting for its visitors in 2022 with the number of visitors approaching 10 million in 9 months of the year. With 138,604 visitors in January, it exceeded the expected number in the first months.
Compared to the same period of 2019, it increased by 93.9 percent and reached 14 million 70 thousand people. Only the number of visitors from Ukraine, one of the important markets, exceeded the 2019 level. Russians constitute 50% of the number of tourists, followed by Germany and Ukraine, respectively. In the surveys, the Russians emphasized that they saw Antalya as their second home and they extended the period because they were very satisfied with their vacation. They stated that they extended the duration of the reservations they made to Turkey to 150-190 days and that they would evaluate the autumn in Turkey.
